I watched the news yesterday where Health Minister Datuk Liow Tiong Lai announced that eighteen types of biscuits bearing the Khong Guan and Khian Guan brands have been found to contain excessive levels of melamine.  News report here.

First point.  What the fuck took so long.  How long has it been since the scandal broke out in China?  Singapore swiftly responded and identified products that were tainted with Melanime.  What were we doing? 

Do you know how long the tainted Khong Guan and Khian Guan brands have been in the market?  Even when the scandal broke out.

Second point and this is the one that really pisses me off.  When the minister is making the announcement, he is all serious and stuff.  But before and after, he is joking around and laughing with his cronies.  He’s holding packets of biscuits and laughing as if something’s really funny.  My blood boils when I see this.

This is the same for most of them.  A few years ago, a national service trainee lost his life and our beloved Samy Vellu visited his parents at their home to present a cheque.  I’ll never forget that while the camera clearly showed the parents were in grief, Samy Vellu was laughing away.  Why?  Only they would know.

Or perhaps this means that these fellas actually don’t give a shit.  The rakyat taking melamine tainted biscuits or parents grieving the loss of their son.  It’s just a job for them and they’re having a blast being in position of power.
