The police can’t be everywhere

I was watching the news on TV a few moments ago and saw a report that Coalition for Free and Fair Elections (Bersih) representative Wong Chin Huat has been arrested under the Sedition Act.  Wong had urged the public to wear black tomorrow in a show of solidarity to protest the Perak state government takeover.

"It will be a peaceful but powerful message of civil disobedience: that we, the people, are the politicians’ bosses and no politician defiant of public opinion can escape punishment at the next poll," said Bersih representative Wong Chin Huat at the launch of the 1BLACKMalaysia campaign today.

"Let’s paint every state and territory, every town and village, black with our clothes, headbands, hats, turbans, veils, armbands, ribbons and stickers on 7 May," said Wong, noting that the gesture was an act every citizen could participate in.

When asked why black was chosen, Wong said it was the colour of grieving, and that 1BLACKMalaysia was a symbolic mourning for the death of democracy in Perak.

He noted that symbolic funerals for political causes were not new. "In 1946, Umno berkabung (mourned) when they opposed the Malayan Union. We are just following in their tradition."

In the TV news report, IGP Tan Sri Musa Hassan was asked on the matter and he said, with a certain level of seriousness on his face, that the police force will not hesitate to take stern action against anyone, from any political party, who tried to create problems and interrupt Perak’s state legislative sitting tomorrow.

Calling for Malaysians to wear black tomorrow is creating problems kah?  I guess our new Home Minister is off to a good start. :P   So much for Najib’s ‘a more liberal govt’ act of releasing two ISA detainees.

But if you think that’s sad wait for the next part.

Tan Sri Musa Hassan was then asked on a different issue.  31 year old Jamilah Selamat passed away yesterday after falling from her bike.  She was the victim of snatch theft.  She was also 2 months pregnant and leaves behind two children.  Tan Sri Musa was asked about the case ragut (snatch theft).  The seriousness on his face lifted and he said with a smile…. that the police can’t be everywhere.

What the fuck is that!  Surely the head honcho of the police force can give a better answer than that!  I’m quite certain that the police will be in Perak tomorrow, ready to pounce on anyone found wearing black.

Wow, what a surprise!

Is anyone out there sick of Anwar as I am?  I’m just sick of hearing the same shit over and over again.  Every ceramah is the same shit.

He really shot himself in the foot when he told the whole world that he had the numbers to form the government.  There were many who believed him and still waiting for it to happen.  Geez.  Pleaselar.  What you guys should do is ask your leader, "WTF Man!? You’re making us look bad here!"

There’s also many like me, who don’t agree with the crossover thingy.  You want to form the govt, do it in the next election.  Not by getting people to jump ship.  Cause there’s always the possibility that it could happen to PKR, which was the case in Perak.

The biggest annoying thing about Anwar is he seems to have a habit of hyping things up.  Like yesterday when he said he was going to make a big shocking announcement at his ceramah.  Was Dr.M joining PKR?  Was Khairi crossing over to PKR now that his father in-law is no longer the PM?  Or was Mukhriz crossing over?

Well the big shocking announcement turned out to be some PPP members crossing over to PKR.  Again everybody say, "WTF Man!?"  What’s so shocking about that?  Anwar should have just kept his mouth shut and announced it during the ceramah.  At least then there would be an element of surprise.  But no…. he had to hype it up again that he had a ‘kejutan’ coming.

To keep the suspense going, he ended the night by making another promise that if PKR win all three seats in the next by-election, he’s going to make another big announcement.  Is Anwar going to announce that he was opening up a bakery and all PKR members get 15% off?  Geez.  Enough already lar.  What’s next?

US honour for Ambiga

We should be proud to read of such news.

Taken from TheStar.

PETALING JAYA: Bar Council president Datuk Ambiga Sreenevasan, who was honoured by the United States for her advocacy of women’s and human rights, hopes her experiences will inspire others, especially Malaysian women.

Her courage and leadership garnered her the prestigious Secretary of State’s International Women of Courage 2009 award in conjunction with International Women’s Day.

“This award has given us the opportunity, which we would not otherwise have had, to share our stories, our successes, our failures, to reach out across our borders and establish a base upon which we can build a meaningful network of support.

“These stories must be told in all our countries,” Ambiga said during her speech in Washington D.C. on Wednesday, when she received the award.

Ambiga, one of eight women from around the world honoured for women’s and human rights advocacy in their homeland, was also given the honour of representing the others in a speech before US First Lady Michelle Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Ambiga said Clinton had inspired women around the world to “reach great heights” when she was First Lady and later a US Senator.

Clinton, in her speech, lauded Ambiga for pursuing judicial reform and good governance, standing up for religious tolerance, and resolutely advocating women’s equality and their full political participation.

The seven other women honoured at the ceremony were from Russia, Uzbekistan, Niger, Yemen, Guatemala, Iraq and Afghanistan.

BN’s brilliant strategy in Perak

I got to hand it to the strategists in BN.  What happened in Perak is a brilliant strategy.

First they get one fella to cross over to Pakatan.  They then made sure the press conference made front page news on almost every newspaper and the news on every TV station, showing them celebrating and holding their hands high.  It was a Pakatan victory.  I was already curious then why the govt controlled media was giving this kind of exposure to Pakatan.

It showed BN in a bad light and Pakatan milked it for all it’s worth.  ‘Another BN rep had yet again lost confidence and jumped ship.’ ‘Another BN rep had yet again come to his senses and join the government that was for the rakyat.’  I was sold.

But then the real bombshell dropped.  3 fellas crossed over to BN, well as independent candidates but pledge their support to BN.  The fella who crossed over to Pakatan then decides to cross over back into BN.  Pakatan was in no position to protest because they had celebrated the crossing over of the BN fella.  If Pakatan had protested now, it would show them as hypocrites.  And now BN was singing the tune that Pakatan had so proudly sung a few days ago.  It’s an absolutely brilliant strategy.  Well done.

This shows that Najib is no Abdullah.  He and his team (whoever they are) put much thought into it.  Put people and strategy into play.

Things have also been slowly happening in the corporate world.  People are slowly being placed into corporate Malaysia that are Najib friendly.  Something Pak Lah failed to do.  This shows that Najib is gearing up for a long rule.

Anwar should have killed off the competition when he had the chance with Pak Lah.  He had the numbers.  Or at least he told us he had the numbers.  Of course, not many of us believed him.

Yea! We have rocket launchers

I read this piece of news with much curiosity.  Army to get rocket launchers.  Apparently the Royal Malaysian Army have purchased 18 Astros II multiple rocket launchers for RM27million.

What for ah?  No seriously.  It’s a genuine question.  I’m not slacking the army off but just curious why.  What do they write in their requisition forms?  18 Astros II MLRs required for ……………….

Perhaps to be used whenever the army is sent overseas for peacekeeping missions?  Perhaps just to aim at our neighbours?

Singing in public

I cannot believe that Selangor police chief would question the singing of the national anthem by ISA protesters at Amcorp Mall on Sunday.  Buthen considering who his boss is, can understand lah.  Perhaps he will come out again in the next few days and say that it was the reporters who had misqouted him.

He went on to add that he is duty bound to carry out his job without fear or favour, and his interest was the safety and concern of the general public.  I guess he does have a point.  I guess a few hundred people holding candles singing NegaraKu was a definite threat to public safety.  I guess the hundreds of protestors threating to storm the Bar Council building a few months ago was not a threat.

He might as well have said that the ISA protestors were arrested because their singing was bad.  Then I can understand.  Bad singing shouldn’t be allowed in public.  Have you heard the street musicians near Central Market?

The other thing I want to rant about are some of the people who attend these gatherings.  Before the shit hits the fan, they are damn proud of what they are doing.  They take photos and blog about every candlelight vigil they attend.  They preach about how strongly they feel about abolishing the ISA and therefore they want to take part in such gatherings.  They criticize others who are blogging about the elections of a faraway country and not doing something about the local ISA.  Before you blog about politics in a faraway land, check out the many candlelight vigils around the country.  Do something about it.

Then Sunday happened.  And now they question whether they should continue to attend such gatherings.  Yes, their feeling very strong. :P

My hats off to those who continue to do so and to those who do so now because of what happened on Sunday.  I will be singing with you.  But please note, I’m quite a bad singer too.
